Vegan pizza

This is the best pizza (short of flying to NY and going to Vincent’s in Albertson):

Make or buy pizza dough.  I used Bobby Flay’s recipe and substituted out one cup of regular flour for whole wheat flour: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/pizza-dough-recipe/index.html  Be sure to add gluten if you’re not using bread flour.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees.

Saute broccoli and garlic in olive oil with red pepper and black pepper in a cast iron pan.

10′ PVC pipe + 4 elbows + 4 tees + 8 caps =

The top bars are 24″ long and all of the supports and legs are 6″ long.  There is a very tight fit so I did not use PVC cement, instead I put a small mark on the top bars at the elbows so I can see if they begin to back out.

I used 1 1/4″ schedule 40 PVC and they are very strong (a little less flex than I wanted).  If you weigh much more than me (I am about 165 lbs) or want much longer top bars then you will want  schedule 80 PVC.

These are a bit thicker than I would want so I may buy 1″ PVC pipe and 1 1/4″ to 1″ elbows so that I can put them on top of the same base.  This will give extra flex while still being strong enough.

Rewording: ‘animal’ becomes ‘dog’ to preserve Loco’s record.

I believed that Loco (a/k/a Locomotive) had been adopted and returned more than any other animal. I was clearly mistaken, as that record has been held by Magilla Gorilla for well over 40 years.

I considered that Locomotive was adopted through a shelter while Magilla was sold by a pet store and so this could be viewed as adoptions versus purchases.  I did not think that this line of reasoning was fair as Mr. Peebles had reduced Magilla’s price so much that his sale price was considerably lower than the fee the animal shelter charged. This calculation used inflation adjusted dollars and accounted for the shelter greatly reducing their fee.

After adjusting the language it has been confirmed and certified that:
Loco has been adopted and returned to a licensed pet store or animal shelter(*) more than any other dog.
(*) among pet stores/animal shelters keeping records in accordance with accepted practices.

How I lost my thumb (not really)

Yes, this is the dog you’ve heard about: universally considered the best dog in the world. This status is all the more remarkable after considering the necessary costs of bandages, sutures, shoelaces, and sewing thread (to repair clothes and sheets as well as flesh).

Job prospects

Almost immediately after getting turned down for a government research position this group  (see link below) offered me a position in Bucharest. They actively recruit PhD’s in Math and CS, they pay well, but they’re pretty much the opposite of who I wanted to work for.
